Series

Prosperity Carps

Carp at play in blue water, lotus opening on a pond. These are classical Chinese subjects of prosperity and purity, painted in oil with the same attention Tan gives a harbour sky. They show the second engine of his art: not observation of what is vanishing, but continuity with what is inherited.
