Orchids and Sparrows

Orchids and sparrows gathers two of Tan's smaller, quieter subjects: the orchid in flower and the sparrow at rest. Sometimes he paints them apart, sometimes in company, an orchid and its sparrow sharing a single close view. Most are worked at a modest cabinet scale, and they belong to his wider attention to the birds and flowers that recur throughout his work.
